The sun shown down brightly in Honolulu as the riders, some for the first time, gathered for libations in preparation for the big Ride at The Manifest, a public house. After a quick briefing on the route, the riders departed Chinatown for the intermediary stop of Iolani Palace for the obligatory group photograph.
After securing the obligatory photograph, as well as few others, the riders were off again amidst the ringing of bells along the Civic Center Bicycle Path enroute to the King Street Cycle Track. Riding through the town of Moiliili and taking a short ambulation along the Ala Wai Canal Bicycle Path, the riders arrived at the well-appointed tea room in The Lounge at the Ala Wai Community Center. Steeds were parked, hats doffed, and tea steeped.
After the submittal of ballots and prize drawing, which awarded bicycle paraphernalia and a lovely set of sterling silver Brussel sprout spoons, with the tabulation of ballots by a committee of the tea room supporters chaired by a California Ranger, the awards were:
The Marvelous Moustache Award was presented to Mr. Manny
The Dashingest Chapeaux Award was presented to Mr. Anthony
The Hotsy-Tostsy Hosiery Award was presented to Mrs. Kristin
The Smashingest Tea Cup Award was received by Mr. Jon
And the Illustrious Lady Award was presented to Miss Alice.
Upon the presentation of the Dapper Gent Award, it was announced by the committee that a three-way resulted from the ballots. The committee required that a dance-off be performed, which was subsequently followed by a rivalrous round of Rochambeau, known colloquially at Jan-Ken-Po. Ultimately, when paper covered rock the award was presented to Mr. Ernest in his plaid sans-a-belt trousers.
Revelry continued and tea was consumed. The Momo Peach brew was much enjoyed alongside Melbourne Breakfast Tea and house blend of the Empress Hotel. Biscuits were noshed, alongside a delightful coconut shortbread. The merriment continued until the close of the The Lounge.
Much appreciation and thanks are bestowed upon:
Mr. Brandon and The Manifest
The staff of the Ala Wai Community Center
Misters Jon, Manny, Anthony, and Mrs. Faye for supporting the tea room
Miss Alice for tea and accoutrements
Miss Roberta for her sterling silver Brussel sprout spoons and shortbread
Mr. Fernando and company for recording the event for posterity
The City and County of Honolulu Bicycle Program
And all the participants for a smashing successful ride
