‘Twas a sunny, although somewhat blustery, November day as thirteen riders assembled for the 2015 tweed ride in honor of His Hawaiian Majesty King David Kalakaua. All the riders, having travelled via their velocipedic conveyances from various areas of Oahu, met at the finely festooned Iolani Palace in downtown Honolulu. From a rallying point in front of Iolani Palace, the riders ambulated alongst the Hotel Street bike path, eventually joining the King Street Cycle Track. The cycling assemblage made a short stop-over at the historic Linekona Building (now the Honolulu Museum of Art School) on Victoria Street (named for her Britannic majesty Queen Victoria). After securing the annual group photograph in both a staid 2 dimensional format, as well as a jolly modern digital format emulating three dimensions, the group continued onward to The Lounge at the Ala Wai Community Center. Upon arrival, the riders were welcomed and joined by the Ride’s staunchly game Tea Man, Mister Jon. Once the riders had finished stabling their steely steeds, they were greeted with pots of finely brewed tea and bountiful snacks, graciously presented by Missus Wendy and family of Tea with Lady Wendolyn. After a cup or two of various teas and the conviviality of discussion amongst the participants, the voting ballots were tallied. Appointed by popular vote, honors were presented as:
Dashingest Dame to Miss Roberta
Smashing Sir to Professor Patrick
Stateliest Steed to Miss Linda
Toppingest Tea Cup to Mister Jon
And the Antiquaria Award was presented to Missus Wendy
A good time was had by all; with preparations for the next Tweed Ride in February already underway.
